                  MARINE CORPS UNIFORM DICTIONARY

2nd Lt. Jayson M. Davidson
Alpha Uniform -   Green wool or poly/wool jacket and trousers
Bravo Uniform -   Long-sleeved khaki shirt with tie and trousers
Charlie Uniform -   Short-sleeved shirt with trousers
Dress Blue Uniform -   Blue jacket with trousers and white cover
Dress Blue/White Uniform -   Blue jacket with white trousers and white cover
Modified Blues -   Short or long-sleeved khaki shirt with dress blue trousers and white cover
Evening Dress -   Most formal attire worn by field grade officers and above.  Short jacket. Equivalent to “white tie and tails”
Cammies -   Camouflage shirt and trousers, also referred to as Utilities
Corfam -   High gloss leather boot
Combat Boots -   Black lace-up leather boot
Jungle Boots -   Lace-up leather boot with green canvas upper
Blousing Band -   Elastic band used to tuck cammie trouser legs - also called a Boot Blouser
Chevrons -   Grade stripes worn on sleeves and collars by enlisted
Hashmarks -   Service stripe(s) work by enlisted just above the cuff of Alpha and dress uniforms; each stripe designates four years of service
Wooly-Pully -   Green wool sweater
Barracks Cover -   Green or white round hat with black visor
Cover -   Hat
Identification tags -   Metal tags that have each Marine’s personal identification information on them.  They are worn on a neck chain.
Anodized Brass -   Finished brass that does not need polishing.

  • Admin Off – Administrative Office/Officer.
     
  • APF – Appropriated Funds
     
  • Allotment – Deduction from Marine’s pay designated to a specific amount for a specific purpose.
     
  • ASAP – As Soon As Possible
     
  • ASE – Aviation Support Element
     
  • AWOL – Absent Without Leave
     
  • AWS – Amphibious Warfare School, Quantico, VA.
     
  • Barracks – Building where Marines live or a duty station where Marines serve.
